Square, Inc. is an American financial services, digital payments and software company based in San Francisco, California. The company was founded in 2009 by Jack Dorsey and Jim McKelvey and launched its first product in 2010.

Square is building easy tools to empower and enrich people. Tools that shorten the distance between having an idea and making a living from it. Square started with a little white card reader but they haven’t stopped there, the developed new reader to helps sellers accept chip cards and NFC payments.
Square also build software tools to help SMB they were already helping with their payments terminal. With their suite of tools Square help the local electrician send invoices, the food truck to setup a delivery option, the clothing boutique pay its employees, give the coffee chain capital for a second, third, and fourth location. Sqaure mission is to help sellers of all sizes start, run, and grow their business.

They also developed consumers focused product like the Cash App, which lets people send money to friends and family instantly.

Square became a publicly traded company on November 18, 2015 and began trading on the NYSE on November 19, 2015. Square sold shares to the public at a price of $9 per share in its initial public offering.

On April 30, 2021, the Company completed the acquisition of a majority ownership interest in TIDAL, a global music and entertainment platform that brings fans and artists together through unique music, content, and experiences.
